Okay, so i want to tell you some words about Hungary's gastronomical culture. The first and most important, the Hungarians love to eat. Love to eat a lot. Very lot.
Why is it important? Because it's affecting the whole gastronomy, cooking and eating processes.
It is the old question of which came first, the egg or the chick: we don't know who was the first, the old grannies who become really disappointed if you don't eat at least three times from the lunch, OR the men with a very good appetite. It's a mystery which is might be old as the universe. BUT the fact now is clear as day, the hungarians always eat a lot.
Unfortunately, it has some bad results in everyday life. The too much eating is combined with an unhealthy gastronomy. We cook with a lot of fat or oil, flour, sugar and salt, and the combinations of these. But, we don't use enough fruits, vegetables. We eat a lot of meat (especially pork), but we don't eat enough fish. (All of these is a result of historical processes, i'll write about about it later.)
Nowadays in Hungary there are a lot of fat and overweight people, many of them with clinical diseases. It's a poor thing. But i don't think the problem is with the culture or gastronomy. These problems come from the balance or the lack of it.
In the future i'll show you that how can we adapt our cultural traditions into the modern age, without losing our roots. And eating good and tasty food at the same time!
